Welcome
Thank you for visiting Islam in Prison, where we are committed to creating pathways to hope, dignity, and opportunity for Muslims impacted by prison. Every day, we work to provide support and advocacy for those behind bars and those rebuilding their lives after prison, addressing the unique challenges faced by Muslim individuals within the prison systems.
We work tirelessly to promote understanding and respect for Islamic practices in prisons. This includes advocating for the right to wear the hijab, access to prayer spaces, Halal meals, Jumu’ah services, and accommodations during Ramadhan. We also address the denial of Islamic resources and the lack of knowledge about Islamic practices among prison personnel. Through advocacy and action, we aim to secure the rights and dignity of Muslim prisoners while driving systemic change.
With your generous support, we are able to uplift this neglected community by promoting spiritual growth, providing Islamic resources, and equipping individuals with the skills they need to lead purposeful lives. Together, we work to break cycles of incarceration and recidivism, support reentry, and create a more just and compassionate society.

The story behind Islam in Prison
Our journey began in 2006, supporting incarcerated Muslims by sourcing Islamic books and materials to meet their spiritual needs. By 2007, we started receiving mail directly from prisons, learning to navigate facility requirements and address the unique challenges faced by this neglected community.
In 2020, we formalized our efforts, registering as a nonprofit organization and officially launching Islam in Prison. Within our first year, we expanded beyond Illinois and the midwest, receiving requests for resources like Qurans, prayer rugs, and literature from facilities nationwide.
Over the years, we’ve fulfilled thousands of requests and established impactful programs, including the Islamic Prison Library, Halal Eid Meals, dates to open fasts within the blessed month of Ramadhan, and transitional services for post-release integration. In 2024, we partnered with a leading Dawah nonprofit, Al-Furqaan Foundation, to enhance our capacity and focus, leveraging their 20 years of experience to provide consistent and comprehensive support to incarcerated individuals across the U.S.

Mission
At Islam in Prison, we are dedicated to providing individuals in prison with the resources, guidance, and community they need to embrace Islam and change their lives. Our mission goes far beyond prison walls, supporting reentry into society through Islamic knowledge, spiritual growth, and empowerment. We are dedicated to reducing recidivism by providing incarcerated individuals with the spiritual guidance, education, and support needed to transform their lives through Islam, fostering accountability, resilience, and reintegration into society.

Vision
We envision a future where people in prison have access to the tools and support they need to connect back with God, achieve personal transformation, and rebuild their lives with purpose. By empowering those who choose Islam, we envision a future where individuals who embrace Islam in prison emerge as beacons of strength and integrity, positively shaping their families, communities, and society by exemplifying faith, compassion, and personal growth.
